IBM still not buying AMD

Written by admin on Monday, January 28th, 2008 in gadgets.

After years of close partnership work and multitudes of buy-out rumors, it appears that IBM is still not buying AMD.

Rumors surfaced recently that led to an uptick in AMD stock, but it sounds like the purchase would not only be unlikely, but also would be detrimental to IBM share prices. It sort of reminds me of doing something like purchasing ATI. You buy a company that is not the leader but a competitor, because you see some spark of value, but you end up not being able to capitalize on it.

AMD has not really had a stellar benefit from purchasing ATI, and perhaps that is one reason why IBM would not want to purchase the combined lot.

CES 2008 Keynote: GM’s Rick Wagoner
We are here at the General Motors keynote, the second keynote on day two of the show. The folks are starting to pile in and we will be getting started in about 25 minutes (4:30 pm pacific, 7:30 pm eastern). Last year Ford got a bunch of attention at CES, between Bill Gate’s Sync announcement and the Ford keynote. That momentum has continued into this year as more and more companies seem to be pairing up with Ford. GM is really struggling and one would expect that being offered a keynote address would come with some big announcements. Reload this page by clicking F5 or Ctrl+R. Hands-on with the ASUS M50 and M70 terabyte laptops
Posted Jan 10th 2008 10:06AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: CES, Features, Laptops After we heard ASUS stepped into Crazytown with two new terabyte-capacity laptops, we knew we had to swing by the booth and bust out our cameras. It seems like the company has really been stepping up its game both on the design and spec front, with a solid build from the sleek black top and touchpad-integrated media controller, straight on down to the Core 2 Duo CPUs and — of course — the ultra-gigantic storage space. Verizon’s white XV6900 Touch: Better pics, looking more real

Verizon’s white XV6900 Touch: Better pics, looking more real
While we first posted about the white HTC Touch that will hit Verizon as the XV6900 all we had to show off were some blurry camera phone style pics that were uploaded over on HowardForums. Those pics have since changed and the phone is being confirmed as real. The XV6900 Touch will offer EV-DO, a 2-megapixel camera, built-in GPS and run Windows Mobile 6. It was originally noted as being thinner than the Sprint branded version however there is still no confirmation on that. Its kind of sad though, because I am no longer a Verizon customer or a user of Windows Mobile, but I am still drawn into this phone. No release date or pricing has been announced, hopefully the first reports of March will hold true. (Read the full post about ‘Verizon’s white XV6900 Touch: Better pics, looking more real’…)

Watch Your iPod Battery Surgery

Watch Your iPod Battery Surgery
Does ipodjuice understand its customers or what? The company, which specializes in do-it-yourself and mail-order replacement of dead iPod batteries, is now offering customers the option to watch live video their precious gizmo being operated on. For some, this will seem like the epitome of "Needs to get out more," but real gadget weenies will no doubt take advantage of the opportunity in droves. Seems like good promotion, too, as they probably wouldn’t be publicizing the proceedings if they were working with chainsaw and duct tape.
