Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-W110 leaks as well
Posted Jan 30th 2008 6:07PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Digital Cameras We’re not certain why Sony didn’t include the Cyber-shot DSC-W110 with all the other pre-PMA camera updates it hit us with the other day, but here it is, in titillating shady scan form. The shooter boasts 7.2 “effective” megapixel resolution, 4x optical zoom, a 2.5-inch LCD, a Carl Zeiss lens, ISO3200 sensitivity, and face detection software that distinguishes between kids and adults. No word on price (probably lower than the W120’s $200), but it’ll hit in the May with the rest of its Cyber-shot bretheren. (Read the full post about ‘Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-W110 leaks as well’…)

Keep close tabs on your teen driver with the Intellitrac X1

Keep close tabs on your teen driver with the Intellitrac X1

Do you enjoy the thought of spying on your loved ones? I can’t really say that I’m a fan of it, but I suppose if you’re an overprotective parent, you’ll go to great lengths to keep track of your teen. If you happen to be both overprotective and a tech junkie, I really feel sorry for your kids, as I have little doubt that you would put this X1 GPS tracking system to use in their vehicle. I’ve seen little black boxes that will keep track of things like location and speed, but this little Intellitrac X1 really takes the cake. First, you have your basic real-time GPS tracking system that will automatically log each trip. Big deal, right? Review: Burnout Paradise for Xbox 360

Review: Burnout Paradise for Xbox 360
Burnout Paradise is the latest hot action car game for the Xbox 360. The game features some of the sexiest vehicles and locations in all of gaming. So, to paraphrase the Guns ‘N’ Roses title track of this game, should we let the game take us down to Paradise City or should we just stay home? I’ve taken on Burnout titles before, and the last look I got was not as pleasant as I would have hoped. I’ve gotten a little more into racing games, having played titles such as Dirt, SEGA Rally Revo, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which I checked out at Sony’s 2008 Preview Event late last year. I didn’t like all of them, but I did get a better flavor of what all the fuss was about when it comes to the genre. (Read the full post about ‘Review: Burnout Paradise for Xbox 360′…)

New videogame based on the SAW series coming in 2009

Written by admin on Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 in gadgets.

I just received a press release, announcing that there was going to be a new videogame based on the “SAW” series coming out in 2009. Typically, I’d just avoid the whole matter altogether, given that I have never seen any of the “SAW” movies, generally dislike licensed videogames, and can barely keep track of what’s going on tomorrow, let alone something more than a year and a half away.

The violent language is no surprise, considering how terrifying and torture-filled the movies apparently are. Still, I was drawn in, and I thought I’d share it:

Oh yes…There will be blood.

Hello.

Smart Carpet Assists The Fallen

Smart Carpet Assists The Fallen
We all know how prone the elderly are when it comes to accidental falls, and sometimes us kids worry as our aged parents are left all alone at home. Researchers at the University of Missouri claim that they have developed a ’smart carpet’ capable of electronically monitoring a senior’s location and sending out an alert in case of a fall. This new sensor can be printed on thin, flexible sheets using inexpensive organic ink, so cheapskates have no more excuse of not getting this for their parents. It is said that a commercial version could roll out in a couple of years’ down the road. This is definitely better than other solutions on the market since the individual in question does not have to be conscious to summon any help. Mio and Qualcomm to merge GPS, real-time traffic, and cellphone

Mio and Qualcomm to merge GPS, real-time traffic, and cellphone
Posted Jan 30th 2008 8:24AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Cellphones, GPS, Handhelds In case you missed it, the biggest trend in GPS navigators at the moment is real-time, two-way data feeds for traffic updates. There’s the Dash Express of course, and TomTom’s ONE XL HD Traffic GPS navigator with real-time traffic feeds provided over Vodafone’s GSM network. Now Mio is looking for a piece of that action with some help from Qualcomm. The collaboration brings Qualcomm’s QST1100 chipset to the mix for real-time traffic updates (presumably two-way, or why bother), voice calling, search, and the always intriguing, “more.” Details on the chipset are few. Sony intros the makeup-inducing PCS-XG80 1080i video conferencing system

Sony intros the makeup-inducing PCS-XG80 1080i video conferencing system
Posted Jan 30th 2008 9:25AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Digital Cameras, HDTV The kind, loving folks over at Sony claim that they’re about to explode the video conferencing market wide open — HD style — and we’ve got front row seats to the festivities. According to the electronics-maker, the PCS-XG80 is the industry’s first 1080i, HD conferencing solution, and will provide dual streaming, 30 FPS performance over IP or ISDN connections. The system is backwards-compatible with its older SD setups, and we assume it plays nice with the behemoth’s earlier HD effort, the PCS-HG90 — though you might want to double check on that before dropping the $8,999 that the company is asking for the system. px-3600 console fakes xbox, ps2, ps3, wtf?

px-3600 console fakes xbox, ps2, ps3, wtf?
Just the other day, I showed you guys a really crummy PS3 knock-off, but I think this videogaming oddity surely trumps that one. This strange little console can’t decide whether it wants to be an Xbox, a PlayStation 2, 3, or something else altogether. Heck, it even has those classic 9-pin controller ports you’d find on an Atari 2600 or Commodore Vic-20. Made by Hong Kong’s Cheer-Tech Industries, the weird console incorporates visual elements from several modern consoles, but avoids the copyright police by tweaking things just enough that the design is unrecognizable (albeit totally derivative).
