Microsoft speculates on ad-supported Sync
Posted Mar 2nd 2008 5:38PM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: cellphones, Portable Audio, Portable Video, Transportation Apparently, Microsoft has plans for Sync that extend beyond the standard voice-activation scheme they’ve got going right now. The company wants to deliver a wider range of network connectivity for in-car use, and they’re debating the possibility of moving away from subscription-based services to an ad-funded scenario. What exactly does that mean? We’ll let Martin Thall, general manager of Microsoft’s Automotive Business Unit explain: “We know where you are and we know where you’re headed,” he says, seemingly unaware of the Orwellian implications. Asus shows off new lineup of Eee PC add-ons
Posted Mar 2nd 2008 3:03PM by Paul MillerFiled under: Misc. gadgets You can’t blame these guys for trying to milk the Eee PC, and Asus is doing just that with its new smorgasboard of Eee PC accessories. Most interesting is the Ai Guru U1 VoIP phone. It plugs in with USB, and in addition to letting you make calls to all your broke-ass friends, you can also use it to browse and listen to music stored on the Eee PC. Next up is the Eee AP, which acts as a 802.11g wireless access point and little else — think AirPort Express minus the sexy. The USB “3.5G HSDPA Card” is just as straightforward, with GSM900 / 1800 / 1900 and WCDMA2100 / 1900 / 850, and download speeds up to 3.6Mbps. Sprint also has another unlimited plan, this one is $89.99

Sprint also has another unlimited plan, this one is $89.99
If you are not worried about data, then Sprint’s other unlimited plan may be something to consider. The second unlimited plan, which is more in-line feature with the other major carriers. Sprint’s plan goes for $10 less than the other carriers and costs $89.99 a month, it includes unlimited voice, messaging and direct connect. In addition to the lack of data, this plan also does not include the Sprint TV and GPS services. Personally for just $10 more, I would suggest going for the $99 Simply Everything plan and getting all those extras, but I suppose there are a lot of people out there who could care less about surfing the web or watching TV on their phone. CeBIT 2008: we’re coming at you live from Hanover
Posted Mar 2nd 2008 1:21PM by Paul MillerFiled under: Features, Misc. gadgets Our sources tell us Hanover is somewhere in Germany, but that’s all we’ve confirmed so far. Luckily, while we might fall short with this whole “geography” thing, we did manage to sneak onto the show floor here at CeBIT 2008. Most booths are still heavily under construction, but we did manage to pick up a few scoops before we passed out from the paint fumes. Teclast T50 PMP

Teclast T50 PMP
At present many people prefer portable media players like MP4 players to MP3 players because they allow you not to just listen to the music but watch clips and movies as well. The variety of them is no smaller than that of MP3 players, so new models, performing even more functions, appear everyday. Another novelty of this kind Teclast T50 has been just designed. The Teclast T50 portable media player might not have arrived on the scene with a bang, unlike those well-known iPods, but this model sure adds something that the majority of its competitors do not have at the moment - a capacitive multitouch display. Unfortunately, the only available information about the T50 includes the aforementioned display, RVVB, FLV and dual independent audio processors. (Read the full post about ‘Teclast T50 PMP’…)

Researchers creating flexible fin to make AUVs more agile
Posted Mar 2nd 2008 2:54AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Transportation If a wave of déjà vu just hit you like a ton of bricks, fret not, as this most certainly isn’t the first (or second) time we’ve heard of researchers looking to the seas to create more intelligent / nimble submersibles. Apparently, a few more folks have gotten involved, as gurus from Drexel, MIT, Harvard and George Washington are now collaborating to develop a “fish-like fin to make autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) more agile.” Apparently, the current iteration has improved on prior versions by eliminating drag during part of the “cut and sweep” motion. The general idea is to combine several of the fins in order to “allow robotic submarines t (Read the full post about ‘Researchers creating flexible fin to make AUVs more agile’…)
