Korg Kaoss Pad vs. Nintendo DS

Written by admin on Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 in gadgets.

If you thought an emulated Korgtendo synthesizer was a great idea, wait ’til you see what else they’re allying with the little portable gaming clamshell. How about a Korg Kaoss pad in concert with a DS lite running official Nintendo music-generating game Electroplankton?

Samsung’s latest SyncMaster LCD monitors look mighty fine
Posted Mar 12th 2008 11:26AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Displays What’s that, you ask? No, it’s not a miniaturized version of Samsung’s LN40650T HDTV. Rather, it’s the firm’s 19-inch 953BW — the oh-so-sexy $239 addition to its SyncMaster lineup. Said monitor boasts a 1,440 x 900 resolution, 300 cd/m2 brightness and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, and it’s joined by the 20-inch 2053BW ($299), 22-inch 2253LW ($319) and 22-inch 2253BW ($349), all of which feature a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution and two-millisecond response time. Each unit also possesses an HDCP-compliant DVI port, intelligent MagicColor controls and a piano-black glossy finish that you’ll likely have a hard time keeping free of dust and fingerprints. Flexible Display from Readius

Flexible Display from Readius
There is an interesting article on news.com, in which the author talks about Readius’ flexible eBook display: “How can you balance the size of the screen so it’s big enough to read and reasonably watch videos, while keeping the device dainty enough to fit in a pocket?” I do not see why eBooks need to be pocketable. What I personally want is an A4-sized eBook that is light, thin and that can contain all the books that I will ever own, in color, of course. By “Books” I mean magazines, manuals, brochures, news and so on… When I move around, I tend to read stuff on my phone and that is good enough for me. What do you think? MiniGod Speakers

MiniGod Speakers

Somewhere, on a hidden island where stereos are worshipped, the natives are dancing a fiery, ritualistic dance to the MiniGod. Okay, that’s not really happening, but it certainly looks like it should be. I mean, look at this MiniGod thing! It looks like it should be a prop at a high-tech luau. Its style is reminiscent of the Jetsons (especially with the ring around its neck) mixed with that CG movie Robots. That is, if Robots had been a darker, scarier movie. (Actually, it could be if you stopped and thought about it. I mean, it was a world inhabited by robots, for crying out loud. What happened to the humans?) Believe it or not, these MiniGod Speakers require only a 9 volt battery for operation, then hook up with a computer or stereo system. (Read the full post about ‘MiniGod Speakers’…)

Nokia lowers, then raises the price on the N810 Internet Tablet

Nokia lowers, then raises the price on the N810 Internet Tablet
It seems the wonderful $90 price cut that Nokia had offered up on the N810 Internet Tablet was not as permanent as we would have hoped. The $90 price cut was great to see because that lowered the price from the regular retail of $479 down to $389. Which would be what I would describe as a great deal, but unfortunately the price has since gone back up to $439. Which makes the great $90 price cut a respectable $50 price cut. So for those lucky enough to make that purchase last night you may have scored an N810 at a fantastic price, especially if you are familiar with any of those “save 15% off” coupon codes that you get from so many podcasts. Intel to Ship 160GB SSDs This Year

Written by admin on Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 in gadgets.

Intel to Ship 160GB SSDs This Year
Intel plans to ship 160GB solid state drives in the second quarter of this year. The flash drives will use the SATA II interface, which means they’ll be faster. Faster than current SSDs and faster than conventional hard drives, if Intel’s Try Winslow is to be believed. When asked if the drives would outperform Samsung’s current 100MB/s offering, he told CNET “What I can tell you is ours is much better than that”. NAND flash memory prices are dropping, with many manufacturers selling at close to or below production cost prices. This, combined with a need for fast, power sipping storage for notebooks creates a perfect market for SSDs. In fact, Intel says that “2008 is the year of the SSD”. At last. Rumor: T-Mobile in Canada in 2009?
This information comes from The Boy Genius Report and has not been confirmed yet. A financing and protocol agreement has been pre-approved which will allow Deutsche Telekom to launch T-Mobile in Canada in 2009. Rogers is the only GSM network provider in Canada, and with T-Mobile entrance into the game, prices are expected to plunge in the Canadian market. The German carrier is supposed to offer an unlimited blackberry plan for $75 a month to the Canadian market. T-Mobile’s HTC handsets and Sidekick line of products will be part of the offering as well. (Read the full post about ‘Rumor: T-Mobile in Canada in 2009?’…)

PICTO’s MP3 playing 7 megapixel DigiArt i90 camera
Posted Mar 12th 2008 4:17AM by Thomas Ricker It’s certainly not the first digital camera to sport MP3 playback. Still, the 7 megapixel Picto DigiArt i90 manages that trick with a certain style not to be overlooked. The 17.5-mm thick shell hosts a 3x optical zoom lens, 3.0-inch LCD, face recognition, unspecified anti-shake technology, voice recorder, 740 x 480 / 30fps MPEG-4 video recorder, and the ability to playback MP3s and video of unspecified formats. Available in Korea this month for ₩179,000 (about $185) with 1GB of SD storage included. Not bad for a take-anywhere, all-purpose shooter sure to best your cameraphone in quality and versatility. Japan orders Apple to investigate exploding iPod nanos
Posted Mar 12th 2008 3:12AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Portable Audio var Uh oh. Japan’s trade and economy ministry is now officially investigating the explosive nature of the iPod nano. The culprit is model MA099J/A — AKA, the old black and white plastic model already reported to spew “chest high flames,” cause bedroom fires, and explode across the floor. The Japan incident occurred in January when an ipod nano reportedly “shot out sparks while recharging.” At this point, all odds are with the nano’s lithium ion battery. Apple Japan has been ordered to investigate the issue and report back to the ministry with the cause. (Read the full post about ‘Japan orders Apple to investigate exploding iPod nanos’…)
