Microsoft pulls the shades on Blu-ray talk

Written by admin on Friday, March 14th, 2008 in gadgets.

Maybe it was just too much wishful thinking. Last week we reported that the Financial Times was running a story that said Microsoft and Sony were in talks to bring a Blu-ray drive to the Xbox 360. Microsoft had offered a peripheral drive for the hd dvd format. Now that the HD DVD format has been abandoned by Toshiba, Microsoft plans on no longer making the drive.

Naturally, the thought was the company must be talking to Sony about a Blu-ray version, right? Not so, according to Reuters. Microsoft reportedly isn’t talking with Sony or the Blu-ray Association about bringing the format to the Xbox 360.

SanDisk’s Sansa Fuze reviewed
Posted Mar 14th 2008 11:21AM by Paul MillerFiled under: Portable Audio, Portable Video Those of you hoping to have your mind blown can go ahead and leave quietly out the back, but for anyone else hoping for a dirt-cheap and fairly lovable DAP, the Sansa Fuze from SanDisk might just fit the bill. PC Magazine and CNET put the player through its paces and came out with a few nice things to say about it. Starting at $80 for 2GB and ramping up to $130 for 8GB, the player is certainly a good deal, and its diminutive form factor — a compromise between the Clip and the View — measures a mere 0.3-inches thick, while still managing a quality feel and a microSD slot. Ultra SpaceStation 6 offers up 12GB flash drive six pack

Ultra SpaceStation 6 offers up 12GB flash drive six pack
Posted Mar 13th 2008 8:31PM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Storage Apparently catering to the few folks out there that feel they have too few USB flash drives, Ultra Products recently let loose this so-called SpaceStation 6, which comes with no less than six tiny thumb drives that can be neatly concealed and used as the mood strikes. Of course, there’s no hub action going on here — which would be convenient — and the slots likely won’t play nice with your current stash of flash drives. Pandigital teases your kitchen with HDTV / digital cookbook conglomerate
Posted Mar 13th 2008 6:07PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Digital Cameras, Displays, HDTV, Household We can’t say we’ve really spent any huge amount of time wondering just how converged kitchen devices can become, but apparently, the designers at Pandigital have. Announced today, the Kitchen HDTV / Digital Cookbook / Digital Photo Frame (really, that’s the name) stays true to itself in three big ways: acting as a 15-inch 720p HDTV (ATSC / NTSC tuner included), a digital cookbook (with pre-loaded recipes and space for more) and a digital photo frame. Packed within, you’ll find half a gigabyte of memory, a built-in alarm clock and an integrated 6-in-1 media card reader. Mac Pro Mini mod is almost the midrange tower Mac you’ve always wanted
Posted Mar 13th 2008 9:34PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Desktops Sure, we think the iMac is a nice machine, but sometimes you want to add a PCI card or six, and when the cheapest beslotted Mac starts at a whopping $2,799, mods like Hideo Takano’s Mac Pro Mini just make you wonder what could have been. Of course, there are no slots in this bad boy either since it’s based around a stock mac mini with a 2.33GHz processor upgrade, but it is a mighty impressive effort — actually, check out Hideo’s whole Mac Mod Lab site for even more sick Mini mods.[Via Unplgged] (Read the full post about ‘Mac Pro Mini mod is almost the midrange tower Mac you’ve always wanted’…)

Smart Guide for drill

Smart Guide for drill
Those people who are familiar with power drills know that it’s not an easy task to work with them, especially if the surface is rough. The most common mistake made by nonprofessionals is not enough pressure while they are drilling something. As a consequence, drill starts to wander all over the surface before hitting its mark. So you can spoil a great deal of materials before you’ll get the one you need. Fortunately due to the new idea of Bongkun Shin you can forget about this. His concept prevents any mistakes while drilling, enabling you to make straight and accurate holes. The Smart Guide makes use of two intersected rings that collapse in on each other - keeping your drill straight and on the narrow. (Read the full post about ‘Smart Guide for drill’…)

USBee Flash Drive

Written by admin on Friday, March 14th, 2008 in gadgets.

USBee Flash Drive
You just gotta fall in love with the USBee concept flash drive from Damjan Stankovic. As most of us know, traditional USB flash drives stick out from the back, and there is always a good chance you might actually knock it out accidentally. The USBee aims to avoid this problem, as it is capable of bending in any direction to prevent your USB port from being rendered useless for all eternity should a standard USB flash drive be broken off at its connector. In addition to being ergonomically designed, the USBee also has a vented housing for cooling and a detachable protective cap that snaps onto the back end of the device when not in use.
