AMD unleashes triple-core, 5 new quad-cores

Written by admin on Thursday, March 27th, 2008 in gadgets.

Everything hasn’t exactly been great for AMD lately, but the plucky chip maker has some news for us today. Despite the tough times, the company earned a number of positive reactions from the recent 780G announcement, and it is following that up with three announcement today.

First, triple-core is finally here. We have been hearing about this for months, and after all complaints about triple-core being nothing more than failed quad-core processors, consumers will be able to find out for themselves. The triple core Phenoms will launch as mainstream processors, aimed at users who are interested in additional performance relative to dual-core offerings, without having to substantially increase the amount they are spending.

Sony Alpha A200 DSLR review roundup
Posted Mar 27th 2008 10:49AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Digital Cameras Although the A200 has been on store shelves for a tick since its US debut at CES, we wouldn’t blame you for clutching that $700 / $900 tight until a handful of reviews hit the ‘net. Thankfully, that time has come, and here’s what we’re hearing. Overall, the highly anticipated successor to the A100 was deemed a “solid entry-level DSLR that doesn’t really stand out in its very competitive field,” but that’s not to say it’s not worth checking out. When viewed in isolation, most reviewers found the build quality, built-in image stabilization, battery life, dust reduction system and respectable image quality to be above average, but those already slinging an A100 will find very few reasons to upgrade. Jacket that harnesses body heat

Jacket that harnesses body heat

This jacket is pretty interesting - it harnesses the power of your body warmth in order to recharge portable electronic devices, notably cell phones, handheld consoles and laptops. This process is known as “electroless etching”, featuring rough silicon nanowires synthesized with silver ions on a flat water surface. These wafers will then be woven into coats, where excess warmth from your body is turned into energy that could give you additional talktime on your cell phone. This is definitely an interesting development that I won’t mind seeing incorporated into the majority of my wardrobe. (Read the full post about ‘Jacket that harnesses body heat’…)

Slide Faucet Concept

Slide Faucet Concept
The Slide faucet takes a non-traditional approach to turning on the tap, as you will have to move it backward to turn it on as well as regulate its temperature. This offers a clean cut design that will not be out of place at many a modern bathroom. This design was created by Alain Berteau and it will go on sale next month in Milan. Pricing has yet to be announced, but like most things in Milan, it won’t come cheap. I guess you have best not soap your hand before you turn the Slide faucet on, as you’d have a hell of a time trying to do exactly just that with slippery hands. Pictures galore from ROBO-ONE 13 competition in Japan
Posted Mar 27th 2008 9:11AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Robots The always jam-packed ROBO-ONE competition in Japan was more heated than ever this year, with bi-ped robots tackling others and ripping them limb from limb. Okay, so maybe that’s somewhat of a stretch, but you can rest assured some serious throw downs, um, went down. Interestingly enough, we heard that an i-SOBOT competition was also included (infighting, anyone?), and that the Maru family’s King Kizer took home the gold.
