T-Mobile to launch 3G

Written by admin on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 in gadgets.

The blogs are abuzz with rumors of T-Mobile finally launching a 3G network here in the US. According to TmoNews, New York will be the first city to get the coveted high-speed connections in May. Another 24 cities will also be outfitted with 3G in the coming months. Of course this is all rumor and not confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt. And it means jack squat for us Sidekick users, until a 3G version of the Sidekick comes out. But with T-Mobile supporting 3G in the near future, that means there is more motivation for them to get out a 3G version of the Sidekick in order to keep that market going.

IOGEAR USB 2.0 External DVI Video Card

Are you one to work with multiple monitors? Well, I would assume that you have a pretty beefy computer system to be able to handle a multiple monitor set up, but do spare a thought for folks who want to do the same without splurging on expensive new hardware. IOGEAR thinks it has the solution with a USB 2.0 External DVI Video Card, instantly opening up an additional DVI or VGA computer screen via a USB connection. All you need to do to start rocking to two monitors is to hook up the adapter to the USB port, install the included driver and you’re good to go. There is no more hassle of opening up a dusty computer case nor running the risk of suffering cuts whenever you try to slide in a new video card. CES 2008: Sony Rolly MP3 Player

Written by admin on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 in gadgets.

The Sony Rolly was surrounded with so many people that it was impossible for us to get close enough to it. We could see on the LCD screen above it that it was some sort of rolling, dancing thing with lights. We heard from the people nearby that it as an mp3 player. We brushed it off as silly and moved on to other things.

Jen Cody was able to get past the crowds and interview a Sony employee about the Rolly. Here is her interview:

It was released in Japan last September, but hasn’t come here yet.

Earth Day Gadgets: Skullcandy Hydration Backpack

In my second gadget for Earth Day 2008, this gadget is one that will help your pocketbook. In this time of soaring gas prices and the desire for people to find alternative ways of getting around (biking, walking, etc.) the one need with all these alternative forms of transportation is hydration. With the latest news coming from the Nalgene/BPA controversy, people are confused as to what types of water bottles / hydration packs they should use to not only be eco-conscious, but also be safe. Skullcandy has a hydration pack that has more than just hydration in mind. The Hydration Backpack has the capability to keep you hydrated and refreshed - but it also syncs with your mp3 player or cell phone. Earth Day Gadgets: Universal Solar Cell Phone/iPod Charger

With today being Earth Day 2008 here in the United States, I thought it would be good to highlight some eco-friendly gadgets for all the gadget lovers out there who want to do their part for the environment. Doing something good for the environment doesn’t involve having to live in a mud hut, sustaining yourself off wheat grass and tofu and wearing only hemp clothing. You can be on the cutting edge of technology and still be green. Who doesn’t own a cell phone or an mp3 player? Even my grandparents have cell phones. But these items need to be recharged on a regular basis otherwise they just turn into expensive paperweights or something you use to hold a door open. (See? Intel updated its Price list this past Sunday. All prices are for 1,000 unit trays purchased directly from Intel. The new list shows a 50% decrease in Intel’s Q6700 quad-core (2.6 GHz, 8MB cache, 1,066 MHz FSB) from $530 as of April 2, to only $266 now. This would allow the system makers out there to put this slightly higher-end quad-core into the same systems the Q6600 quad-core (2.4 GHz, same) was going previously, which is believed to be the sub-$1,000 markets. The Q6600 price also dropped 16% to $224, down from $266, possibly pushing it either close or into the sub-$800 markets.

Intel is definitely moving quad-core into lower-end mainstream.

Anti GPS Tracker

Anti GPS Tracker
Judging by the number of GPS trackers we have in the market these days, it makes sense to come out with an Anti GPS Tracker. This device blocks all GPS signals within a 5 meter radius, making it virtually impossible for you to be tracked. It is plugged inside your vehicle’s cigarette lighter in order to draw its power from. One major drawback is this - your very own GPS navigation device will be out of commission, too, so make sure you’re familiar with the roads around you before you make use of this puppy. The Anti GPS Tracker retails for £149. (Read the full post about ‘Anti GPS Tracker’…)

Will Sprint Sell Subsidized, WiMax-Enabled Notebooks?

Will Sprint Sell Subsidized, WiMax-Enabled Notebooks?
While Xohm, Sprint’s oft-delayed WiMax service, still hasn’t graduated from trials here in the U.S., a few details are starting to emerge about how the company might sell individual WiMax-enabled devices. During a news conference in Taipei on Monday, Acer said its new WiMax-equipped Aspire 5920 notebook will be sold through various providers (including Sprint) wrapped up in nice little service bundles, similar to the way mobile phones are sold. Here’s where it gets interesting, though. According to a report from IDG News Service, pricing for the Aspire 5920 will vary, depending on the individual service plan a customer selects. Whether this means you’ll technically be getting a subsidized WiMax notebook from Sprint remains unclear. (Read the full post about ‘Will Sprint Sell Subsidized, WiMax-Enabled Notebooks?’…)

The biggies in the Market are gearing up with the idea of super luxury liners that can be adopted by those who can afford them. To start off with we have the 160,000 tonne liner called the Independence of the Seas. It will be arriving in Southampton at the end of this month. MSI unveils the Wind PC

Written by admin on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 in gadgets.

MSI unveils the Wind PC

The Eee PC made by Asus was a big hit due to the cheap price, small dimensions, and overall performance. In less than a year it got upgraded and the “soon to be released” version - 900 - is considered a top-notch UMPC. With all the success, it was only a matter of time until other companies started copying the plan and creating their own products. That is what happened with MSI, which has announced the Wind notebook. One of the big differences when comparing each device is the screen size. While the Eee model goes for the tiny screen of 7-inches, the MSI Wind offers two options: 8.9-inch or 10-inch monitor, with 1024×600 as the resolution.
