Blu-ray rentals will soon cost more at Netflix
While we have heard the rumors, it now looks like it will soon be official. During a recent conference call, the CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings announced that because Blu-ray discs cost more money to purchase, that they need to charge a higher rental rate for them. He also went on to state that “consumers are used to paying more for high-definition.” Personally I think consumers are used to paying more to own high-definition, I am not so sure how eager they will be to pay more to rent it. Currently Netflix has a small amount of subscribers who choose Blu-ray over standard DVD’s and with a price increase it seems that small percentage will remain small. Kingston offers full-proof data security with the DT BlackBox USB drive
Kingston has introduced one of its most secured data storage device yet with the new DataTraveler BlackBox (DTBB). We’re finally talking about real data security here with a 256-bit hardware-based AES encryption that automatically locks itself after ten unsuccessful password attempts. Even the US Government was excited about the DataTraveler BlackBox, so much so, that it has given it an FIPS certification. FIPS certification is given to data devices which have passed the Federal standard for data management and security. Going back to the USB drive itself, we learned that it comes in 2GB, 4GB or 8GB storage capacities and retail for $165, $242, and $424 respectively. A keyboard with connections - Kensington Ci70

Written by admin on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 in gadgets.

There’s no such thing as too many shoes or USB Ports. Kensington can’t help with the first, but does have the brilliant new Ci70 which has two easy-access USB 2.0 ports for quick connection to cameras, MP3 players, thumb drives, etc. See that built-in mini USB connector with cable? Just plug in your camera or phone and start downloading those photos for your Facebook page.

With a 35% smaller footprint and low-profile design, it saves on desk space and, they say, “reduces clutter,” though I haven’t seen a difference in my pile of post-it notes, press releases, iphone cases . . . maybe the next version will organize my desk?

Rugged Ricoh G600 point-and-shoot resists dust, water
by Darren Murph, posted Apr 22nd 2008 at 9:26AM In case it’s not glaringly apparent just by eying the image above, Ricoh’s 600 (the proper successor to the Caplio 500G) is built to withstand most any element you’ll encounter during a weekend jaunt through the wilderness. The 10-megapixel compact features a 2.7-inch LCD, 28-140mm wide-zoom lens, 5x optical zoom, USB connectivity, ISO 3200 capability and a shock-resistant chassis that also turns a cold shoulder to dust and water. Those in a pinch can swap in a set of AAA cells should the rechargeable Li-ion run out of juice, and though we can’t imagine it getting much use, there’s even an accessory shoe included for an external flash. Saliva Detects Heart Ailments
Heart ailments are the bane of society in recent times, with many people finding out about their heart problems (emotional and physical) way too late. Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin could introduce a potential lifesaver, where a credit card-sized nano-bio-chip requires you to smear your saliva on it. Once inserted into an analyzer, the results will show within a quarter of an hour, pinpointing heart ailments as well as predicting a heart attack risk of the subject. It will take some time before this technology will be able to reach the masses on an affordable scale, so do take good care of your health in the mean time.
