Review: AT&T Mobile TV — Media Flows Like Greased Lightning
Do we really need another way to rot our brains? Yes, yes we do — and live TV on our phones is just the ticket. The latest effort to get the boob tube on a mobile device is AT&T’s Mobile TV with FLO (Forward Link Only), and it’s surprisingly good. Coupled with the LG Vu phone, it’s a match made in couch-potato heaven. The MediaFLO service uses an unusual, nonstandard bit of spectrum to ensure that the streaming of your favorite flicks is uninterrupted. Instead of downloading the data over AT&T’s 3-G network, the Qualcomm-developed technology operates primarily on the old UHF television band, though it does tap into the 3-G network in order to get started. Sidekick 3 getting an OTA

Sidekick 3 getting an OTA
Sounds like the Sidekick 3 is getting a Over The Air (OTA) update to upgrade the radio firmware. Doesn’t look like anything significant or major improvements, but all you Sidekick 3 owners may see it popping up on your device soon. I assume it’s rolling out to the pioneer group first, which is basically a small (random) subset of the Sidekick 3 users. As long as that rolls out without significant problems it will start being sent out to everyone. (Read the full post about ‘Sidekick 3 getting an OTA’…)

Best Buy snaps up 17 CompUSA leases

Written by admin on Friday, May 2nd, 2008 in gadgets.

by Joshua Topolsky, posted May 1st 2008 at 8:24AM
Apparently, not only is CompUSA rising from the dead like a horrific, zombified corpse, but now its guts are getting bought up and replaced by another retail behemoth. According to reports, Best Buy has just paid $13.5 million for 17 CompUSA store leases, ranging in time from three to 14 years and totaling 453,000 square feet. If the nightmare of CompUSA wasn’t enough to haunt you in your sleep, the news that its now-defunct locations will be replaced with essentially more of the same should shake you to your very core. Xobni decides against joining Microsoft

Written by admin on Friday, May 2nd, 2008 in gadgets.

Xobni is a name you may, or may not of heard before. This startup company has only been around for 2 years, but has already attracted the interests of Microsoft.

Their first product is a plug-in for Outlook that helps you organise your inbox. It does this by extracting information about the different people you know from the e-mails you have received from them, and forms a profile for each one. It then uses this profile to see how the different people you know are linked together. It also groups information within a profile taken from your inbox messages and associated with that person e.g. Conversations and attachments.

Phantom Keystroker

Phantom Keystroker
Office pranks can be fun… remember the Annoy-a-tron? Welcome to the next generation of office pranks… the Phantom Keystroker. The Phantom Keystroker may look like a harmless circuit board, but it’s actually a devious contraption of unlimited office-based torture. Simply discreetly attach the Phantom Keystroker to any extra USB port on your victim’s computer, no drivers needed. The Keystroker emulates a keyboard and mouse and periodically makes random mouse movements and types out odd garbage text and phrases. A simple jumper setting allows you to choose between either keyboard garbage typing, annoying mouse movements or both. An adjustment pot sets the duration between “events”.
