New screenshot, details about the upcoming Sidekick Gekko/Aspen
So, what do we have here? An “exclusive screenshot” of the rumored new Sidekick Aspen/Gekko mobile device courtesy of Hiptop3. But don’t get too excited folks, we have yet to hear an official word on the accuracy, which means we may be looking at a real screenshot or just a product of some imaginative minds with excellent photo editing skills. But it’s nice to speculate and to get excited over something as good looking as this screenshot of the Sidekick Gekko/Aspen. Hiptop3 says that the device is a follow up to the Sidekick iD since the Sidekick Gekko/Aspen’s codename happens to be Style 2 while the Sidekick iD’s codename was Style. Tim Burton Batmobile On Ebay For $500,000

Tim Burton Batmobile On Ebay For $500,000
This 20 foot long, eight foot wide Batmobile is one of five original props used in Tim Burton’s first Batman movie. Of course, it’s utterly impractical. You have to enter through the roof, the eight cylinder Chevrolet 350 engine won’t be giving you Prius-like fuel economy, and finding spares might be a problem. But who cares? It’s the Batmobile. Here’s the seller’s description: Na na na na na na na na na na BATMAN. That is what your neighbors will say when you pull into the driveway. How many people do you know that have a Ferrari, a Mercedes, a Lamborghini, or a Corvette? My guess would be there is at least one of these in your neighborhood. Now how many Batmobiles are in your neighborhood. (Read the full post about ‘Tim Burton Batmobile On Ebay For $500,000′…)

Video: How to Make Carrot Juice ‘Caviar’

Written by admin on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 in gadgets.

Maker Faire wasn’t all exploding battlebots and 300,000-volt giraffes. There were food hackers at work, too, like Michael Zbyszynksi, who explains how to make carrot caviar in this video.

He starts with a beaker of ordinary carrot juice mixed with sodium alginate — a derivative of seaweed — at a ratio of 2 grams of sodium alginate to 250 grams of carrot juice (a 0.8 percent solution).

He then uses a syringe to drop small beads of the solution into a bath of water with a couple grams of calcium chloride dissolved in it. The calcium chloride hardens the sodium alginate from the outside in, giving it a "skin" that holds the carrot juice inside.

After rinsing in plain water, the caviar-like beads are ready to be used as a surprising garnish.

CrunchGear’s May Meetup: A NYC can’t-miss event

CrunchGear’s May Meetup: A NYC can’t-miss event
Almost a year ago, I reported on CrunchGear’s first birthday party; it was a quirky and predictable mix of beer and gear. The guys had a good show of fans, but altogether we barely filled the second-floor. I’m drawing my own conclusion that alongside our own personal and professional online networks, both tech and social scenes have converged in popular, near-trendy ways. The result in this case? A pretty hot CrunchGear party. The line to get into Manhattan’s Red Sky wrapped around the block and the party extended to all three levels of the bar. Passersby must have gotten a good chuckle as so many of the patient partygoers had iPhones in hand and were typing away as they waited to go inside. MicroHoo is dead; Microsoft officially withdraws bid for Yahoo!

MicroHoo is dead; Microsoft officially withdraws bid for Yahoo!
Well after all the hype during these past three months Microsoft has withdrawn their bid for Yahoo. With the final offer coming in at $33 per share or a total of $47.5 billion, that was just not enough to match the $37 per share or $53 billion that Yahoo was requesting. Steve Ballmer was also later quoted as stating that Microsoft would not proceed with a hostile takeover because they felt Yahoo “would take steps that would make Yahoo undesirable as an acquisition for Microsoft.” That is that, the deal is dead. Sigma APO dual USB charger revives two devices with one plug

Sigma APO dual USB charger revives two devices with one plug
What ever happened to killing two birds with one stone? This - the Sigma APO dual USB charger from Japan. As the name suggests, it will have a total of two USB ports so you can charge two devices with it simultaneously. Not exactly groundbreaking technology, but it’s something road warriors such as yourself would gladly appreciate, I’m sure. It’s light, weighing in on only 43 grams, and runs 1000 mA in total for each port. Meaning that each device gets half of that, 500 mA whenever it is plugged in to it. So now you can relax, and watch your ipod and cellphone get charged while you do nothing. You know you can’t play with devices that are charging, don’t you? Ah, multi-functional devices. DigiFi, Kleer partner to offer up Opera wireless headphones

Written by admin on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 in gadgets.

Comfortable headsets are great when you can find them. If they are cordless it’s even better. Now add the ability to listen to your ipod wirelessly for up to 10 hours straight. If that is not enough – what if you and three other people could share the wireless connection? Have I peaked your interest yet?

Kleer (good name when talking about headsets) and DigiFi have joined their resources to give us a cordless headset with CD quality sound known as Opera. A bit rich at $98 but an interesting concept I must say.

Opera is not your ordinary headset. It wraps from behind your head and up over your ears.

Microsoft gives up on Yahoo

Microsoft gives up on Yahoo
Remember the tango that Microsoft had while trying to court Yahoo? Well, apparently their attempts were unsuccessful, as the Redmond computing giant has just announced that it will be withdrawing its proposal to acquire Yahoo! Inc. According to Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft.”We continue to believe that our proposed acquisition made sense for Microsoft, Yahoo! and the market as a whole. Our goal in pursuing a combination with Yahoo! was to provide greater choice and innovation in the marketplace and create real value for our respective stockholders and employees.” Good ol’ Steve has more to say after the jump.
