Time for Gadgetell’s “Who’s on crack” this week

Written by admin on Friday, June 13th, 2008 in gadgets.

This is where we call out by names the actions and companies that seem odd, out of touch or just plain straight up smokin crack.  Technology is an odd realm where PR speak doesn’t hold a lot of water if the 1s and 0s don’t line up.  This week sees posturing, positioning and flat out insanity.  Here is what caught my eye this week:

iPhone 3G.
I missed this call completely.  I predicted no subsidies, no lower price, multiple models and a build your own adventure.  Why did I blunder so badly?  Easy, Apple is on crack.  White?  Are we headed back to the plasticy white Mac days?  Only one reason Apple included the white color: cocaine is white.  I am not saying Apple has a problem, wait, oh yeah that is exactly what I am saying.

Interview With The Creator of VLC4iPhone

Written by admin on Friday, June 13th, 2008 in gadgets.

When Steve Jobs demonstrated the new iPhone applications at his Monday WWDC keynote, he said that the iphone would be the third major new platform, after Mac OS X and Windows (leaving Linux users a little disgruntled, we expect). Since then, there has been a slew of announcements of forthcoming software titles, all enabled by Apple’s official iPhone software development kit (SDK).

The power of the SDK is demonstrated by such applications as the ultimate to-do list, OmniFocus, which uses the location abilities of the iPhone to tell you when there is a store nearby and displays your shopping list.

Sharp Has Largest LCD Monitor

Written by admin on Friday, June 13th, 2008 in gadgets.

Sharp wants to be the big bad boy on the block with a 108″ widescreen lcd monitor that will certainly have no place in the home, as it targets both business and commercial applications instead. Known as the LB-1085, a screen that size comes with the following :-

  • 1,980 x 1,080 resolution
  • 1,200:1 contrast ratio
  • 400cd/m² brightness
  • 176° viewing angle
  • 6ms response time
  • HDMI, S-Video, DVI, Analog RGB inputs

No idea on how much this monster will cost, but it will definitely hit the accounts pretty hard at least for the quarter.

We told you that the LG Decoy would pack its own Bluetooth Headset, but there’s nothing like a bunch of images. Enjoy the photo gallery. The question is: what do you think? Would you prefer to have a separate headset? do you think that this is something that will not age very well or is this the coolest stuff ever?
