AMD Radeon Card to beat GeForce

Written by admin on Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 in gadgets.

AMD aims to turn the tables on NVIDIA with a special edition Radeon HD 4800 card which was specially designed to pummel the GeForce GTX 280 into submission where sheer performance is concerned. The yet-unnamed hardware relies on a water cooling system to keep its core running at a minimum of 950MHz while the video memory will be stretched to accommodate 950MHz or more when it comes to overclocking. NVIDIA has already taken hold of the performance crown for many a year already, and the company on the whole seems intent on retaining it each year - of course, AMD still has some strides to go before it matches NVIDIA across all fronts as an equal.

While the axe that comes with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is pretty sweet, if you were hoping to just get the game and use your Rock Band guitar, you’re out of luck. Despite rumors that Activision had opened its doors to the Harmonix-made Rock Band guitar controllers, early users of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith are reporting that the Xbox 360 version game isn’t being so friendly after all. 1972 VCR Offered ‘Analog Rights Management’

Written by admin on Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 in gadgets.

This would be hilarious if it weren’t such a sad, telling look into the minds of movie industry executives. The Cartrivision, a 1972 home VCR which preceded VHS and Betamax, contained an ingenious extra: DRM. Or, as Dan at Dan’s Data puts it, “Analog Rights Management”. It’s also a tale of innovation soured and killed by a lack of vision.

The combination TV/VCR console (an iMac for videos, if you will) could record television shows just fine, albeit at a crappy 10 frames-per-second (the frames were “stretched”, or played three times over, to fill out a full second).

Dash Express software receives much needed update

Written by admin on Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 in gadgets.

The good manufacturers of the Dash Express have been hard at work updating the software. There a few main updates to the system, which are sure to make the Dash Express even more popular.

One of the first updates involves something called MyRoute, which studies a route you go on often and figures out ways to improve on it. For example, if you are commuting from home to work, it will learn the route that you usually take. Now, next time you want to make that same trip, this program will look for faster, more gas efficient ways to get to the same place, and then you can choose if you want to go that way or not. One of the problems with the initial software in the Dash Express was the time it took for the maps to render.
