Apple Spams iPhone Users With MobileMe Ad

Written by admin on Monday, July 28th, 2008 in gadgets.

Despite e-mail outages, inadvertent credit-card charges and web-app bugs, Apple isn’t embarrassed enough about MobileMe to resist advertising it to iPhone users.

When you plug in your iPhone, iTunes fills up its window with an advertisement offering a free 60-day MobileMe trial. Fortunately, after clicking "No Thanks" the ad doesn’t reappear every time you connect your iPhone (from my testing, at least).

It’s understandable that Apple is advertising the service this way, since MobileMe synchronizes user information with iphone among other devices.

Asus Xonar D1 7.1 PCI Soundcard

Written by admin on Monday, July 28th, 2008 in gadgets.

Asus Xonar D1 7.1 PCI Soundcard
Asus has released a new soundcard - the Xonar D1 7.1. This PCI soundcard will update the previous Xonar DX with (a claimed) 35 times cleaner audio quality compared to other motherboard audio, hitting signal to noise ratio of 116dB. Other features include :- Integrated DS3D GX CirrusLogics CS4398 audio DAC (120dB SNR & 117dB THD+N) 1/32 (-105dB) of the total harmonics distortion present in motherboard audio (-75dB) That’s pretty technical, but to sum it up, it is much quieter when things are supposed to be quiet, and it does not shirk from reproducing near perfect sounds when the situation calls for it. If you can’t tell the difference with your motherboard audio, either get a better speaker or your ears checked. (Read the full post about ‘Asus Xonar D1 7.1 PCI Soundcard’…)

Zelda Fan? Check Out this Ocarina (For Real!)

Zelda Fan? Check Out this Ocarina (For Real!)
This is one of those times when your eyes light up in surprise. Not that the ocarina is something which cannot be reproduced in real life, but come on, if you’re a Zelda fan, it’s dream come true. I’m not a hardcore Zelda gamer, but I feel happy for everyone who is. After all, having an object from *inside* the game tangible and within one’s grasps is one of a gamer’s greatest dreams. This blue ocarina is a real playable intrument just like the one you see on the Zelda video game. Made from glazed earthenware, it has six holes with notes C4 to D5. And if you’re not naturally musically-inclined, it comes with a song book with notes for some Zelda tunes so you can take your obsessions to a whole new level. (Read the full post about ‘Zelda Fan? Google gets Cuil search rival

Written by admin on Monday, July 28th, 2008 in gadgets.

Anna Patterson may be known to some of you for creating the biggest search engine index of 30 billion pages before being snapped up along with her technology by Google in 2004. In 2006 she then left the search giant to create Cuil (pronounced “cool”).

Cuil is another search engine, but Anna along with her husband Tom Costello and two ex-Google engineers, believe it is a giant leap forward from the technology that powers Google search. For starters she claims it has an index of 120 billion pages and that it far exceeds Google’s current index total. The underlying algorithm used for searching is also very different.

Want a Wii? Buy Comcast Triple Play

Written by admin on Monday, July 28th, 2008 in gadgets.

Comcast has a pretty notorious reputation for customer service. Between throttling BitTorrent users and lousy technical support, they’re a pretty hard sell in the internet, phone, and cable game. Sure, they may offer a huge amount of channels, and internet speeds that blast Cox out of the water; but who wants to put up with a finalist for Consumerist’s Worst Company In America contest.

Oh, wait. Forget what I just said. Apparently, Comcast is doing something pretty sweet for new customers interested in their ever-so-thrifty Triple Play package. If you sign up for two years of the service, you can get yourself a brand new Nintendo Wii.

Cellspin for the iPhone: Post and Upload Everywhere at Once
We already published about Cellspin, this cool phone application (with an ugly design) that allows users to publish audio, photo, and text simultaneously to their favorites blogging or social networking websites in a few clicks. Today, Cellspin launched on the iPhone and users can post on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Pownce, Blogger, Picasa, Flickr, Live Journal, Live Spaces, TypePad and eBay, and more to come. I hope that Cellspin wil invest in a new design: the look and feel on the iPhone is not great either! (Read the full post about ‘Cellspin for the iPhone: Post and Upload Everywhere at Once’…)

Blackberry Bold Delayed in US

Blackberry Bold Delayed in US
Fans of the blackberry Bold will have to wait a little bit longer as the smartphone’s release has just been delayed on both Rogers and AT&T, although the latter’s delay is much longer compared to Roger’s date which was pushed from July 25 to July 29 (which is tomorrow, btw). AT&T subscribers will have to wait until the middle of next month though, and the handset will only hit retail stores somewhere around September 1. Telstra in Australia has just announced that the Bold will make its debut in that corner of the world at the end of September. They say good things come to those who wait, but waiting can be a real pain at times if you’re the impatient type. (Read the full post about ‘Blackberry Bold Delayed in US’…)

Artist Uses Remote Control Cars To Paint
Here’s a painting method that they don’t’ teach at school. English artist Ian Cook does his painting with remote control cars of various sizes. He dips them into acrylic paint, and controls them to create his masterpieces. He calls it “Popbang Colur”. His latest work is a painting of a new Camaro, which was painted using remote control cars of General Motors vehicles. It’s currently on display at the British International Motor Show, and Cook himself will be doing a live demonstration by painting a Chevrolet Lacetti World Touring Car on August 3rd. The USB 4-in-1 Webcam keeps all of your gadgetry together
If you have a serious thing for multiple gadgets in one when it comes to the things you place on your desk, this 4-in-1 webcam combines plenty of gadgetry.  It also has nice bendy arms to get each individual part in its perfect spot for your comfort.  There is a bit of a down side though, to get the microphone close enough to your mouth, the webcam would be broadcasting up your nose.  Which isn’t a huge deal, it just means if you want to use the microphone, you’ll have to flip off the webcam.
