After camcorders, RED’s new target looks to be Digital SLRs
Earlier this year, we reported on a cool gadget by RED called the Scarlet, which will bring ultra high resolution video to the consumer market based on the commercial RED ONE camera which has turned the filmmaking world upside down. Well, not content to rest on their digital laurels, RED has set it’s sites on a new market … digital SLRs. Dropping a nuclear bomb into REDs user forums, Red CEO, Jim Jannard recently announced plans to create what he terms as a “Monstro sensor” based on the Red One’s Mysterium Censor. Jannard stated he plans on using this new 5K sensor in “another camera aimed squarely at the DSLR market.” This means that a RED DSLR could employ resolution up to 25 Mega pixels, which would clearly raise the bar for digital SLR cameras. The Cassette Tape USB Hub manages to slip in four ports

The Cassette Tape USB Hub manages to slip in four ports
A while back there was the odd little DIY project that resulted in a VHS tape being turned into a 4-port USB hub.  Well now someone has made a smaller USB hub but with just as old of technology.  Sadly I don’t believe this one is created from recycled cassette tapes, but at least it is created to look like one.  The only difference is that instead of being stuffed full of tape to record your music on, it comes with filled with four USB ports.  Yes, they managed to get all four into an object far smaller than the VHS tape.  It also looks like a much cleaner job. Swallowable microgrippers could make surgery more / less invasive

Swallowable microgrippers could make surgery more / less invasive
by Darren Murph, posted Sep 1st 2008 at 7:19AMWhile the scientists that developed these newfangled ingestible microgrippers call them minimally invasive, we’re not so sure that swallowing minuscule devices that can cut and grab tissue when chemically activated fits our definition of keyhole surgery. Nevertheless, tiny “handlike grippers” are currently being shown off to highly intelligent professionals in the medical realm, and if proven feasible, they could one day be used to perform biopsies from within. More specifically, the devices could reportedly “react to the biochemicals released by infected tissue by closing around the tissue, so that pieces can be removed for analysis.” Yeah, we reckon this is a bit less painful than actually going under the knife, but the mere thought of having blade-wielding microorganisms floating around our innards spooks us just a wee bit. The Skeleton Disco Ball perfect for spooky parties

The Skeleton Disco Ball perfect for spooky parties
Disco balls have got to be the ultimate shiny object and this one even has glowing red eyes.  It also even comes in the shape of a spooky skull.  It’d be great to pick up for either this year’s Halloween party or just anytime you’re in the mood for a goth themed dance.  After all the goth kids can’t have just any normal disco ball, it has to be slightly different so as to not get confused as one of the other average joe dances.  The mosaic glass may look the same as it does with every other disco ball, but thanks to glowing eyes and an odd shape it sets itself apart from the rest. Kuma teddy bear phone

Kuma teddy bear phone
Teddy bears are hot properties among females, and that fact has remained around for a very long time already. Most guys who are attached would have experienced purchasing a teddy bear for their other halves before, so it would make perfect sense for a cell phone manufacturer to take advantage of the situation by releasing a handset that is wrapped within a teddy bear. This new Willcom release is known as the Kuma Phone, and features a bear-specific user interface. For example, you squeeze one of its paws to make a call, while another is used to access speed dial numbers. Pressing the bear’s tail wil hang up or answer a call. The Kuma teddy bear phone will retail for a whopping $500. Source: (Read the full post about ‘Kuma teddy bear phone’…)

BeatThat.com - submit deals, make money

Written by admin on Monday, September 1st, 2008 in gadgets.

A new deals website pays you to submit deals on popular products (currently only in 6 electronics categories and 511 products). BeatThat.com also simply rates the vendors in 3 categories (green, yellow and red) based on their rankings at a few other big sites such as Amazon.com and Shopping.com.

No idea how much you get paid for submitting deals, so I’m guessing that they want to keep that quiet until you submit stuff, probably because it’s not that much!

Dell replacing XPS touchpad with touchscreen… or someone, somewhere owns Photoshop
by Paul Miller, posted Aug 31st 2008 at 9:42PM There are two kinds of Dell rumors: sure things, and ones that aren’t sure things. This one falls in the latter camp, so proceed with caution. We’ve got a tipster who says a friend of his from Dell handed him this shot of what is purportedly a new XPS M1330 / M1530 design. As you can see, pretty much the same old fare… but what’s this? A large glossy touchpad? Here’s our hunch: Dell is tired of drawing inspiration from Apple after the fact, and decided to turn the tables by capitalizing on one of the most persistent (and outlandish) Apple rumors in existence.
